Synopsis

When Lin Yue returns to the remote mountain village of Qingshui to bury her grandmother, she expects grief, old resentments, and the uneasy familiarity of a place she left behind long ago.

She does not expect to discover her own name written in red inside the family genealogy.

Bound to a dragon.

For centuries, the women of Yue’s family have been tied to Ren, an ancient guardian whose magic keeps the village spring alive. In return, the covenant takes years from their lives. Her grandmother gave twelve. Others gave far more. Now the bond has passed to Yue.

Ren is not the monster she wants him to be. He remembers every woman the covenant has taken from, every year that fed the mountain, and every choice made in the name of survival. As Yue searches for a way to free her family without condemning the village to drought, anger gives way to understanding, and understanding becomes something far more dangerous.

Because loving Ren has a cost.

Every touch can shorten her life. Every moment of intimacy strengthens the bond she is trying to destroy. And the closer they become, the harder it is to separate desire from duty, sacrifice from choice, and love from the systems that taught generations of women what they were expected to give.

Set in a remote Chinese village shaped by ancestral obligation, folklore and the fragile politics of survival, The Widow of the Last Dragon is a dark, deeply emotional romantasy about inherited sacrifice, impossible choices, and loving someone without pretending love can make the past innocent.
